s011x.jpg All stations, All stations, All stations, this is Adventure, ... s012x.jpg Adventure....
s013x.jpg Adventure (with one of those lowly power boats). s014x.jpg The Adventure (behind the dark colored power boat) is a 30 foot Laguna. It came with an Instructor and all the food we needed for five days of instruction.
s015x.jpg The first night out we anchored here in Pirate's cove. Early in the morning we rowed over to walk around the beach. Brother XII tried to start a harem on the island some years ago and there is supposed to be a treasure. s016x.jpg The docks at Pirates Cove were not heavily used. The Adventure is the last boat on the right.
s017x.jpg The Adventure is waiting patiently for us to return. s018x.jpg Joan is hugging a tree that is nearly as gnarly as her husband.
s019x.jpg The Pacific Grace passed us in Tricomali channel. s020x.jpg The Pacific Grace is a tall ship that is used for training groups of teens.
s021x.jpg The current groups seems to be sitting around. s023x.jpg Swabbing the deck was a necessary activity that I excelled at.
s024x.jpg Showing off my style in swabbing. s025x.jpg Actually, I got the deck dirty by pulling up the anchor, so I got to clean it.
s026x.jpg Tug boats were a common sight. s027x.jpg This rock was covered with sea lions, their roaring can heard for miles!
s028x.jpg Behind the sea lions on Gabriola Island s029x.jpg We also saw a sea lion in the marina at Nanaimo. Other interesting animals included seals, otters, eagles, herring and what may have been a whale breaching in the distance.
s030x.jpg A Coast Guard vessel passed us going out of Nanaimo harbour. s031x.jpg I got to pretend to be Captain on the fifth day. We sailed from Silva Bay Marina into Nanaimo Harbour. Our Instructor seems to think that we had done something special by sailing into the harbour.
s032x.jpg And that is the end of a fantastic week! We both enjoyed the experience though we could have done without the test! We are now certified CYC Beginners, VHF operators, and Basic Boaters! There will be more. The plan is to return this summer!
